The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival will run from 9-12 September 2010 in the Christchurch Town Hall complex, The Repertory Theatre, Hagley Community College and other venues in Christchurch.

The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival is the largest Festival of its kind in the South Island and has become a major event in the city’s rich cultural life.

Since its inception in 1997, the Festival has been steadily building in size, reputation, awareness, international participation and popularity within the Christchurch and South Island community.

The Festival 2010 programme will consist of a series of the ‘Read Aloud’ schools’ programme, several informal events for ‘word-lovers’, a keynote session with a major international writer and presenter,
a concentrated and comprehensive weekend of individual and panel discussions and conversations with international and local authors and commentators, a poetry slam, a literary quiz, a songwriting session and much more.

The Festival introduces local readers and writers to international authors, works and ideas, but also retains a strong focus on New Zealand writing and writers.

It is a truly interactive event, where sessions are opened up to audience discussion and interaction, where writing workshops inspire and help people in their own endeavours.

The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival 2010 promises to be the biggest and best yet.
