The Sporting Life of Jack LovelockDavid Colquhoun
Jack Lovelock was one of the world’s best-known athletes. In 1933 he broke the world record for the mile. At the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games he won a gold medal and broke the world record for the 1500 metres. Throughout his career he kept journals and diaries which until now have never been published. As If Running on Air constitutes a unique record of a sporting life and this illustrated discussion will reveal just what it took to make a world champion. Editor David Colquhoun is Curator of Manuscripts at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, where the Lovelock manuscripts are held. David Colquhoun will be in conversation with Dr Greg Ryan, senior lecturer in history at Lincoln University and one of New Zealand’s leading sports historians, with three published books to his name. |
